OUR HISTORY

The story of Il Pianone is also the story of our family. It all began in 1962, when our grandfather, Enrico Panattoni, with remarkable vision, transformed this place into one of the most enchanting restaurants in Bergamo Alta.

Over the years, our father, Marzio Panattoni, carried on this tradition, expanding it with the same passion and dedication.

Our Philosophy

Today, it’s us — Luca and Carlotta — who carry on this legacy. With our hearts rooted in the values of our family — warmth, quality, and authenticity — and our eyes set on the future, we strive to make every experience at Il Pianone unique and unforgettable.

THE LOCATION

The garden of Il Pianone is a special part of our story. Our grandfather Enrico envisioned and lovingly nurtured it, turning it into an oasis of beauty. Our father Marzio preserved its essence, and today it’s up to us — Luca and Carlotta — to carry on this tradition. With its blooming flowerbeds, century-old trees, and colors that change with the seasons, the garden is a magical place where our guests can relax and enjoy unforgettable moments.

LA MARIANNA

La Marianna is an integral part of our family and our history — it’s where it all began. A young Enrico, after gaining experience running his own bakery in the old town, took over an old bar and transformed it into a beloved meeting place for thousands of Bergamo families.
Fabrizio, together with his sons Niccolò and Cosimo, and Mirko — our father Marzio’s brothers — now continue the tradition at La Marianna, in the pastry shop and the restaurant respectively.

Together, Il Pianone and La Marianna share a common vision: celebrating quality, authenticity, and the flavors of our land. Every day, we work with the same passion to offer experiences that blend taste and tradition, carrying forward a family legacy that makes us proud.

STRACCIATELLA

One day, after many experiments, Enrico Panattoni created a very special gelato — a creamy white base filled with irregular flakes of dark chocolate. It needed a name, and so… why not call it after one of the most popular dishes at La Marianna, the stracciatella alla romana?
This is the true story of Stracciatella — a gelato now recognised and enjoyed on every continent.

Enrico Panattoni never thought about patents or copyrights, but he held tightly to the original recipe, thanks to which, for over half a century, thousands of people have come to La Marianna to taste the “Original Stracciatella.”
